Jaipur – The Pink City
Jaipur, also known as the Pink City, is one of the most attractive and beautiful cities and the capital of Rajasthan. It is referred to as the Pink City mainly because of the colour of the stone used for construction. Most of the palaces and forts here are made of marble and red sandstone. Jaipur, a city steeped in rich culture and history, is full of spacious gardens and broad avenues. The blushed pink majestic palaces and magnificent forts take you right back in history when the city was ruled by the Maharajas. Here you can find people dressed in vibrant colours. The shops in Jaipur offer tourists an array of attractive blue pottery, embroidered leather shoes, tie and dye scarves and other interesting artefacts. Jaipur is famous for its fabric, shoes and jewelry that are timeless in elegance and come in designs fit for royalty.
 
Jaipur – An architectural marvel
The architectural planning of this magnificent city is awe-inspiring. A new tradition has been created with the Mughal and Rajput architecture which is best seen in the City Palace complex. In keeping with the Mughal tradition, we can find more open court areas or durbar. These durbars stand on arched pavilions, standing on delicately crafted pillars. The opulent and fabulous ornamentation adds to the romantic charm.
The family rooms of the palace feature an extended entertainment area. The beautifully sculpted, ornamental windows overlook the courtyards and streets. In the enchanting gardens, which extend from the internal courtyards to the external vistas, you can find many sparkling fountains and canals.
There are many interesting tourist attractions in and around Jaipur. Alternately, if you just want to walk around the streets of Pink City, you will continue to be fascinated by this architectural gem.

One of the main reasons why there is a huge influx of tourists every year into Jaipur, the Pink City. This city is without doubt the most popular tourist destinations in India. There are many activities for visitors here and many attractive tourist spots to visit including the colourful bazaars, temples, museums, havelis, palaces and forts. The city offers visitors the most exciting shopping experience too.
 
Important tourist spots in Jaipur
The City Palace - There are many different attractive tourist spots and you simply cannot miss visiting the city’s impressive City Palace. The City Palace is a majestic building standing right at the heart of the city. It is an exemplary example of Rajput and Mughal architecture. There are many different structures inside this amazing complex. This includes : seven storey palace called “Chandra Mahal” or moon palace, Diwan-e-Khas which was the King’s hall of private audience and the Mubarak Mahal where you can find the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh museum. At the museum you can find a rich collection of weapons, Mughal costumes, Rajasthani and Mughal miniatures, Mughal carpets and rare manuscript collection.
Jantar Mantar – Your visit to Jaipur is definitely not complete without visiting Jantar Mantar. This fascinating observatory was built by King Sawai Jai Singh in the year 1718. This structure is constructed with marble and stone. In order to facilitate the movement of stars, this observatory features a few scientifically designed equipments, the most remarkable of which is the “Ram Yantra”.
Amber Fort – This magnificent fort is situated on a sandstone hilltop just outside the city. The construction of this fort was started in 16th Century AD by Raja Man Singh and completed in the 18th Century AD by Sawai Jai Singh. Amber Fort is built with white marble and red sandstone with a fine blend of Rajput and Mughal architecture. The fort offers visitors a fantastic view of the surrounding areas.
Hawa Mahal – Also known as the “Palace of Winds”, this stunning monument is the pride of Jaipur. Hawa Mahal is a screen made of sandstone featuring 593 windows that are screened. These acted as a veil for the royal women as they watched the happenings on the street in an obtrusive manner.
Ram Niwas Bagh – This spacious garden is well maintained and features a greenhouse, an aviary, a zoo, a museum, a herbarium and a sport ground. It was constructed during the reign of Sawai Ram Singh II in 1868 AD as a project for famine relief.
Other Attractions – Apart from these major attractions, there are other interesting places to visit in Jaipur. These include the Nahargarh Fort, Jaigarh Fort, Sheesh Mahal, Birla Planetarium, Jaipur Museum, Rambagh Palace, Sisodia Rani Garden, Govind Devji Temple, Amber Palace and the Laxmi Narayan Temple.
