Varkala
Varkala is a fascinating coastal town in Thiruvananthapuram district situated in Kerala, India. Varkala beach is quiet and isolated, so it is a perfect place to enjoy a relaxing getaway. It boasts of numerous tourist attractions. The palm-lined beaches, attractive Kappil Lake and Janardhana temple are some of the inspiring attractions of Varkala.
Sree Janardhana Swamy temple in Varkala is nearly two thousand years old. It is situated on a steep hill. It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is a stunning specimen of South-Indian style of architecture. You can find an old banyan tree that contains several snake deities within its trunk. Non-Hindus are not allowed to enter the temple premises, but they can walk around the banyan tree.

Varkala beach offers tranquil retreats. The powdery sands along the Arabian Sea and the panoramic landscape as well as seascapes offer you a blissful experience. You can have a cool dip in the mineral springs near this beach, which are believed to have some medicinal properties. The Papanasam is the most famous beach in Varkala, as its waters are believed to wash away one’s sins.

You can plan a visit to the Sivagiri Mutt, which is located three kilometers away from the Janardhana temple. This mutt is situated at the top of the hill. It was built in 1904 and it is the headquarters of Sree Narayana, the guru who propagated the concept, one caste, one religion and one god. His Samadhi is visited by thousands of devotees. The 924 feet Varkala tunnel is another attraction. It was built in the 19th century.
