Chicago, The Loop
The Chicago Loop is the center of commerce within the city of Chicago and has many interesting and unique aspects that make it one of the top tourist destinations in the city. Those traveling here can visit many museums, financial institutions and can take advantage of the sites of some of the most interesting and influential architecture of the 20th century.

While the Loop is primarily a cultural and business area, there are over 16,000 people who live in the area as well. The average price for residential real estate is over $700,000, well above the city's average. As you can imagine, only the most prestigious and wealthy residents are able to call the Loop their home.

Those looking to visit the Loop often take advantage of cultural tours through the area. One of the most popular examples are architectural tours. These tours take the visitors through the downtown Loop area and get into details on the history of the architecture and the architects who designed Chicago's famous skyline. The Chicago River also runs through the Loop and in the summer months many people take advantage of the cruises offered, which go through the Loop and give excellent views of the local architecture.

Of the buildings in the Chicago Loop, the Willis Tower, previously known as the Sears Tower, is likely the most famous. It was the tallest building in the world until the 1990s and remains the tallest building in the United States. At over 1,450 feet, it is the best example of the high-rise, skyscraper type of building that Chicago is known for.

Beyond architecture, there are many other areas of interest within the Loop. The Art Institute of Chicago is one of the most prestigious art museums in the country and is considered the best in the Midwest. Its collection rivals that of the best museums all over the world. Theater is also well represented in the area, with the Goodman Theatre, the Chicago Theatre, the Lyric Opera and the Civic Opera House all being located in the Loop.

There are also several parks located within the Loop, including Grant Park and Millennium Park. During the summer months, the Loop has numerous festivals for citizens and tourists, including the Outdoor Film Festival, Blues Fest, Jazz Fest and the Taste of Chicago. These festivals are free of charge and showcase the city's commitment to making culture accessible to all of its citizens.
