Chicago, Millennium Park
Millennium Park is located near the lake front in the downtown district of Chicago. The park is relatively new, having only been completed in 2004, but has quickly become one of the most visited areas in the city of Chicago. In fact, it is 2nd only to Navy Pier in terms of the number of annual visitors to Chicago attractions.

One of the reasons that the park has such universal appeal is because there's something for everyone. In the warmer months, the Jay Pritzker Pavilion uses modern architecture to house some of the best free concerts offered anywhere. The Jay Pritzker Pavilion was designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry, who also designed the BP Bridge, which spans 925 feet and connects Millennium Park to Lake Michigan and offers unsurpassed views of downtown Chicago. Those visitors who've ridden their bikes can take advantage of a huge bike parking facility at no charge, making Millennium Park a destination for those who embrace living the green life style.

There are numerous dining options within the park as well. One example is the Park Grill, which, during the summer months, can accommodate more than 300 people in their outdoor area, making it the largest outdoor dining option within the city. It also has floor to ceiling views of the famed Magnificent Mile, giving the diners something to keep their eyes on. During the winter months, the outdoor seating area is turned into a huge ice skating rink, which gives tourists and residents alike an option to enjoy the colder days.

Many people know that Chicago is at the forefront of architecture and has been since it's founding. This is certainly showcased throughout Millennium Park. There are several large sculptures in the park, the most famous likely being Cloud Gate. Residents of Chicago typically refer to this large, silver orb shaped sculpture as 'the Bean' and it offers unique and interesting perspectives on the city's skyline. Another popular architectural addiction is the Crown Fountain, designed by Jame Plenary, which is immensely popular with adults and children alike, due to it's height, at over 50 feet, and the addition of an interior fountain, which gives visitors a shower at regular intervals.

While there are many major sculptures by major artists, those visiting Millennium Park will also notice there are several sections of displayed art by artists who are making their start or haven't gotten their big break yet. Visitors to the city will quickly realize that Chicago isn't just about promoting what they have, it's about encouraging their up and coming citizens to be the best that they can.

Of course there are plenty of gardens within Millennium Park as well. Different areas of the park have different plants, with numerous plaques along the way to give information to visitors on what they're looking at. In fact, the City of Chicago also offers free downloads so that each person traveling through the park can listen to a recording, describing the various aspects of the park, its history, and the sculptures currently housed there.
