Datia is a district in Madhya Pradesh, India. It has several interesting tourist attractions, ranging from Shri Peethambara Devi Siddhapeeth to fantastic palaces and fort. It is one of the busiest pilgrim centers in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
Shri Peethambara Devi Siddhapeeth is the most prominent Shakthi Peeth in India. It is located at the entrance of the City of Datia. There are temples for Goddesses Bagla Mukhi Devi and Dhumawati Mai in this spot. There are other shrines for various gods and goddesses, including Hanuman, Parashuram and Kal Bhairav inside the Peeth complex. You can also find a Shiva temple, which dates back to the period of Mahabharata. Sonagiri temples are another attraction in Datia. Sonagiri hill is a pilgrim center for Digambara Jains. The Jain King Nanganang Kumar attained salvation with fifteen million followers in the Sonagiri hill. You need to climb nearly 300 steps bare footed to reach the temple. There are about 80 marvelous white temples dedicated to Jain sadhus in Sonagiri hill and they would surely impress you. The largest temple on the top of the hill has a tiled courtyard and it houses the idols of Jain Trithankaras.
Govind Palace built by Raja Bir Singh Deo is one of the eminent tourist attractions in Datia. You can find fabulous Bundela mural paintings in this palace. RajGarh Palace is another must see place in Datia. It is located near Peetambara Peeth. It was built by King Shatrujit Bundela. There is a museum inside the palace and it houses culturally significant things.
