Lake Constance, whose shores border Germany, Austria and Switzerland, covers an area of 538 sq. km. Out of a total of 236 rivers and streams flowing into the lake. The Rhine is its main water source. The shores of the lake are densely populated by a succession of picturesque towns and important countries in the course of history. Medieval towns, castles and fortresses are laid out as a chain of beads around the lake. Historical cities of magnificent beauty such as Constance, Überlingen, Meersburg and Lindau will allow you to discover one of the most beautiful and fascinating regions in Germany. The gorgeous islands of Reichenau, and Mainau are also among the main sights. Tropical climate with a remarkable flora uncommon at this latitude waits on the latter, also known as „flower island”. The largest island, however, is that of Reichenau. It became famous for its monastery, now a destination for many travelers but also a religious and cultural heritage of extraordinary importance. The lake is a great location to practice sports of any kind, from golf to sailing, from hiking to skiing, from all types of water sports to long bike rides. Do not miss the chance to take a cruise on a boat of the now legendary Weiße Flotte. The water quality of the lake is impeccable, and you can swim and relax on the beautiful and tidy beaches. A multitude of restaurants, bars and cafes offer an excellent cuisine. My advice is to relax in a beer garden, enjoy a dinner on the terrace of one of the great restaurants on the shore and savour wine from the region.
Finally, I recommend buying a Bodensee-Erlebniskarte ticket, enabling you to visit over 180 destinations located in the region of Lake Constance. Tickets can be purchased at all tourist
